07 - Viale Donato Bramante
Here we are in the old area of Fermignano, it was once called “vicolo grande” and it was the first of the seven alleys that together with the three squares constituted the castle. It opened with one of the doors of the castle which was demolished in the 19th century.
The door of the clock was one of the two doors of the ancient castle. Immediately after the door, instead of the present pharmacy there was the only church of the castle, the church of San Pietro. The church was with single nave, a very small church, with a bell gable. Beside the major altar there was the painting which depicted San Pietro, realized by the 17th century painter Giovan Battista Urbinelli, born in Fermignano in 1605 and deceased in 1663.
Today the painting is kept in the new parish church.
On 19th December 1407, in the church of San Pietro, located at the top of the major street, the new arengo of the city gathered with 45 members, under the presidency of Giovanni Pini of the castle of Fermignano. Then the seat of the Municipality was moved to the opposite building.
The church was demolished together with the door of the clock in order to build the ”Aliventi” loggias in the new rising Garibaldi square.
The old was destroyed to leave space to the new and to the modern, a practice followed in many cities.
